The state’s quest to get rid of non-citizens voters this election year has turned up 180,000 hits — but it incidentally targets minorities and Democrats while giving white Republicans a pass.
Hispanic, Democratic and independent-minded voters are the most likely to be targeted in a state hunt to remove thousands of non-citizens from Florida’s voting rolls, a Miami Herald computer analysis of elections records has found.
We can go on and on about hoodies and [George Zimmerman] but it’s not really a discussion until you set aside SOME blame for the democratic politicians who unconditionally surrendered in the fight for sensible gun laws. When are they going to stand THEIR ground?!
…This is a cautionary tale about what happens when the democrats completely lay down on an issue and let conservatives have whatever they want- you get insanity. Arming panicky, untrained, racist vigilantes like George Zimmerman and telling them it’s ok to shoot whenever they’re afraid, is like duping all the milk bones on the kitchen floor and telling your dog ‘just eat when you’re hungry.’
“Stand your ground,” guns in bars, guns in church, guns in the classroom? Where does it end?
Bill Maher on gun control and Florida’s “stand your ground” law
I agree with Bill on this. I wish our country had a liberal party because, frankly, most of our dems are center-left, if that. Hell, a lot of them are center-right. I want more politicians in our government who are willing to stand up to conservatives and the NRA, even when it doesn’t fucking poll well.

An age gap in American politics:
Young voters have become critical for Democrats in part because older voters have become more Republican.
These are the two sides of an age gap that has surfaced in American politics almost overnight. In the 2000 race for president, Democrat Al Gore did slightly worse with voters under 30 (48%) than he did with voters 65 and older (51%), according to exit polls. In 2004, Democrat John Kerry did seven points better with younger voters (54%) than older voters (47%). In 2008, Obama did 21 points better, winning 66% of voters under 30 but only 45% of voters 65 and older.
The #liberals tag is pretty much a bash liberals and democrats page. nice
i wanted to watch The Walking Dead season finale in peace here……
Backing unions a delicate mission for Elizabeth Warren
- Organized labor leaders have been among Democrat Elizabeth Warren’s earliest and most ardent supporters, funneling thousands of dollars into her campaign, offering her a high-profile speaking platform in the run-up to her election announcement last fall, and introducing her to voters in South Boston this week.
So, we all know Obamas got this in the bag. Lets focus on getting Elizabeth Warren into the senate
The Fighter: The Democratic House leader reflects on battles past—and those yet to come.
By John Aloysius Farrell
NJ What kind of chauvinism have you faced in Congress?
PELOSI At first the men thought having women in the House was nice. Then they started to get a little threatened—it wasn’t as cute. When I decided to run for leadership, they said, “Who said she could run?” And I thought, “Perfect. That is exactly right. Who said she could run? Not you.” That is how they thought not that long ago.

Barney Frank a liberal voice impossible to ignore
- It was a classic Barney Frank moment, filled with anger, pride, bluster, outrage, and confrontation. And it was on live television. “You don’t listen at all, or maybe you are listening or you’re too dumb to understand,” Frank, the liberal icon, lectured to Fox News’s conservative talk show host, Bill O’Reilly.
Bye, bye Barney.
- “Love him or hate him — and there were very few who fell anywhere in between,” the Washington Post’s Paul Kane wrote, adding “behind the scenes, Frank became one of the most important legislators of his generation on domestic policy, a successful backroom negotiator who won the trust of the Bush Treasury Department and the gay rights movement.
- The Boston Globe reports on the shock experienced by some of Frank’s constituents: “As word spread from Newton to New Bedford, constituents in Frank’s Fourth Congressional District shared that look of surprise. From steadfast admirers to sometime supporters and even critics, many interviewed said they had imagined that Frank, first elected in 1980, would remain a fixture for years to come.”
- The Atlantic provocatively asks “Did Barney Frank cause the housing crisis?” and concludes no, he personally did not but that private banks took America to the brink, but the government-sponsored enterprises “blazed the trial.”
- Reuters describes Frank as sharp-elbowed but pragmatic, a wily dealmaker behind an acerbic wit.

Elizabeth Warren’s first TV commercial in her campaign for the Mass. Senate seat. I like her. A lot.
Whats that sound you hear? Republicans poopin their pants
soooo SB5 got shot down, Mississippi surprised the shit out of me tonight - i was really expecting that “personhood” initiative defining a fertilized egg as a person would get the support it needed, seeing as how super conservative Mississippi is….. kinda makes you wonder how far right the republican party has actually gone - also in Maine we get to bring back same day voting, which lets people vote the same day they register on election day. On top of that i think we got a couple more democrats in state congress seats. The only let down for me was Mississippi approving voting IDs, Im not a big fan of voter suppression, but again, super conservative state. so we got most of what we wanted, Id say. I foresee good things coming in 2012, This is just the beginning :-)
